Kennedy to focus ISUspeech on perils of factory farms

He'll explain how on Wednesday, in his talk "Environmental
Destiny," sponsored by Illinois State University's College of Arts
and Sciences. Kennedy's visit is part of a yearlong lecture series
celebrating the campus' 150th anniversary.
The Riverkeepers, an organization for which Kennedy helped sue
companies accused of polluting the river in the 1980s, grew into the
nationwide Waterkeeper Alliance. Factory farms accused of polluting
might find a foe in such an alliance, he said.
Factory farming critics often cite waste as a health issue for
nearby waterways. Kennedy says that's a problem, but not the only
one. Factory farming's expansion is more troubling, he said: "I'm
