CLASSICAL MUSIC
With the National Symphony out of town and the Washington Opera
in a holding pattern until the opening of "Pique Dame" and "La Forza
del Destino" next month, the spotlight turns to chamber music-always
the busiest and often the best part of Washington's musical life.
This week, one of the city's most imaginative and energetic
chamber music groups, the Washington Music Ensemble, will give a
festival of American music, including several world premieres, at
American University. Pianist Alan Mandel will open the festival
Tuesday night in McDonald Recital Hall. The rest of the week, in the
Kay Spiritual Life Center, the festival will include music of Elie
Siegmeister on ...
