Premier Hun Sen of the Vietnamese-backed government in Cambodia
arrived here today and held unprecedented talks with Thai Prime
Minister Chatichai Choonhavan in a dramatic diplomatic effort to
resolve the 10-year conflict over Cambodia.
The talks mark the first high-level contact between senior
officials from Thailand and the government in Phnom Penh since Hanoi
invaded Cambodia in late 1978, overthrowing the brutal Khmer Rouge
regime and installing a government friendly to Vietnam.
Thailand provides sanctuary to Cambodian guerrillas along the
Thai-Cambodian border fighting to overthrow Hun Sen's government and
allows China to funnel arms to the resistance forces through its
territory. ...
