Article: Historic Bar Harbor cottages safe from demolition for now

BAR HARBOR - Historians concerned with the fate of the McKay Lodging buildings can relax - for now.

Though a grace period is set to expire this month, the historic McKay cottages on lower Main Street aren't slated for demolition any time soon, architect David Witham Jr. said Thursday.

The property is owned by Witham's father, David Witham Sr., a local hotelier who owns the Bar Harbor Inn and several other valuable properties.

Last fall, Witham and his partners - contractor Bob Bond and a third party who has not been identified - announced plans to construct a 70-room hotel called the Rodick Inn, which would span the McKay property as well as the neighboring Morang-Robinson car dealership ...
