Article: New Bangor police administrator asked to fill void of retiring veteran

BANGOR - For 25 years, even when Bangor Police Department Administrative Lt. Robert Welch was buried with reports, assignments and telephone messages, he still found the time to help anyone who asked and to crack a joke with those who didn't.

"He has always been very helpful, very ambitious, always willing to pitch in and help and has always had a great sense of humor," Bangor Lt. David Kane said Wednesday. "He's got a quick wit, and when he sees the opportunity he's got a lot of good one-liners."

But joking around has never affected Welch's ability to do his job and do it well, Kane said.
