Bill and Judy Tickel, fundamentalist Christians and longtime
opponents of abortion, were reluctant at first, but they decided to
join "Operation Rescue" after standing with their four children to
watch the antiabortion group's "Siege of Atlanta" outside Midtown
Hospital last Oct. 8.
As women, escorted by police, entered the building where
abortions are performed, they passed a line of protesters praying and
singing hymns. The demonstrators were part of Operation Rescue's
attempt to close abortion facilities nationwide by peaceful protests
and challenges to police barricades. When the protesters tried to
block the entrance, they were arrested.
