Former national security adviser Bud McFarlane and Sen. Claiborne
Pell aren't what anyone would term close friends or political allies,
but when a neighbor is in trouble, even a U.S. senator knows how to
be neighborly. On Sunday afternoon, a fire swept through McFarlane's
Georgetown townhouse, causing an estimated $75,000 in damages.
Pell lives across the street from President Reagan's former
aide, who pleaded guilty last year to four misdemeanor counts of
withholding information from Congress in connection with the
Iran-contra affair. The Rhode Island Democrat has invited McFarlane
