Article: Calais polling lawyers for city solicitor's post

CALAIS - Officials are searching for a city solicitor who will work closely with the council.

For more than two years, City Solicitor David Fletcher, of Fletcher and Mahar on North Street, has served as the city's attorney.

Fletcher replaced longtime City Solicitor Francis Brown, who died in 2003. Brown had served as city solicitor for more than 50 years.

Requests for proposals have been sent to lawyers in Calais and those in surrounding areas who have municipal law experience. The responses are due at the city building by noon Wednesday, May 26.

City Manager Linda Pagels said Monday that when Fletcher was hired, the councilors agreed to reopen their search in two years.
