Article: Bar Harbor clears path for QM2 visitors

BAR HARBOR - The Town Council on Thursday voted unanimously to create a pedestrian mall in the heart of the historic downtown business district when the world's largest ocean liner, the Queen Mary 2, arrives on Sept. 27.

Not since the Queen Elizabeth 2 visited Bar Harbor for the first time in July 1981 has there been as much anticipation about a cruise ship visit.

The council, in what is believed to be an unprecedented decision, agreed to create an area in town where only pedestrians would be allowed.
