SEARSPORT - The 9th annual Searsport Lobster Boat Races went off
Sunday without a ripple, but plenty of wake.
In Sunday's series of 30 races, Brian Fraser's boat Venom peaked
at 49 mph to top the 50 or so boats that participated.
But with no mishaps or injuries as happened in 2001 when the Wild
Wild West did a barrel roll - with no serious injuries to the two men
on board - the races went smoothly, said Harbor Master Wayne
Hamilton.
Usually, the Searsport competition is the racing circuit's season-
ender, but this year the Pemaquid Lobster Boat Races, postponed last
week because of Hurricane Charley, will get under way next Saturday,
according to Travis Otis of Searsport.
