The meeting on social concerns in the suburban Maryland Catholic
church lumbered along until someone brought up the poor health of the
church in the inner city.
"I feel removed, sheltered here," said Maggie Quinlan, a member
of St. Rose of Lima parish in Gaithersburg. "I want to do something,
but how do you start?"
"When you walk out of St. Augustine's {Catholic Church in the
District}, you see the mandate to help the poor in front of you,"
said Tara Seeley, director of outreach at St. Rose. "When we walk out
of St. Rose, all we see are lines of traffic."
