Article: Bar Harbor to increase cruise ship fees in 2007

BAR HARBOR - Cruise ships will pay more to enter the harbor, but not until 2007, the Town Council unanimously decided Tuesday night.

Port fees are $1,500 per ship for the 2005 season.

The harbor committee had recommended in April that the town raise that fee to $1,750 for 2006.

Councilors agreed Tuesday to raise the fee to $1,750, but not until 2007.

"It would be gracious of the town to implement an increase with a two-year increase rather than a one-year increase," harbor master Charlie Phippen said at the meeting.

Cruise ship visits to Bar Harbor have increased steadily each year for the past several years, and this year likely will top 80. Municipal revenue from the fees in 2004-05 ...
