Like the county itself, the Loudoun school budget keeps on
growing.
When Superintendent David N. Thomas floated his preliminary plan
for fiscal 1990 in December, the so-called base budget was less than
$87 million.
By the time it was approved by the School Board in mid-February,
more than $2 million in suggested improvements had been added.
But by the end of the month, when the School Board formally
presented its spending plan to the Board of Supervisors, nearly $2
million more had been added.
The net result: a budget topping $91 million.
Not surprisingly, supervisors-who have the final say-are
suggesting that it's too high.
