Article: $91 Million School Budget Plan Likely to Go Under the Knife

Like the county itself, the Loudoun school budget keeps on growing.

When Superintendent David N. Thomas floated his preliminary plan for fiscal 1990 in December, the so-called base budget was less than $87 million.

By the time it was approved by the School Board in mid-February, more than $2 million in suggested improvements had been added.

But by the end of the month, when the School Board formally presented its spending plan to the Board of Supervisors, nearly $2 million more had been added.

The net result: a budget topping $91 million.

Not surprisingly, supervisors-who have the final say-are suggesting that it's too high.
