BROOKLIN - Brian Allen was a quiet guy who worked odd jobs, came from a well-known family and would do whatever he could to help someone in need, according to those who knew him.

He lived in an old trailer on his father's property off the River Road, and ventured into the center of town whenever he needed cigarettes, beer and sundries from the Brooklin General Store.

He would chat with the store's owner, Mike Roy, while he paid for his goods. Several locals said this week that they knew him well enough to say hello, but not much more.

"He was a pretty quiet, keep-to-yourself type of person," Roy said Wednesday during a break from loading freezers in the back room.
