If you wandered into the Bangor Opera House earlier this week, you
could easily get the impression that nothing has changed for the
resident Penobscot Theatre Company. It was typical pre-opening night
activity. The lobby was vacant, but a carpenter and electrician were
working busily onstage. In an attic loft flanked by rails of
costumes, actors were rehearsing the season's inaugural show "Picasso
at the Lapin Agile," which opens in a week. The 90-minute work is a
comedy written by Steve Martin, the stand-up comedian and actor. So
the story is very funny. The actors, who were still struggling with
memorizing their lines, were making it funnier with their
