Article: National Folk Festival moves on to Virginia Wet weekend lowers attendance in Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. - The crab cakes were Cajun, the weather was sultry, and the friendly T-shirted volunteers welcomed everyone with warm Southern accents. But in most respects, the 67th annual National Folk Festival, which opened here Friday after spending the past three years in Bangor, felt like an old friend.

Spread across a historic site along the banks of the James River in downtown Richmond, seven performance stages shared space with the booths of food vendors, crafters and sponsors. Golf carts zipped through the crowds carrying supplies and elderly or disabled attendees. Festival T-shirts and hats were selling at a brisk pace, as were music CDs and bottled water.
