I won't answer your questions about Venice, which was delightful,
unless you ask me about the dogs. There is a law in Venice that
requires dogs to wear muzzles, which is a curious thing because the
problem lies at the other end. The alleys are narrow in Venice and
the towers are high. So you are constantly looking up instead of
down, and constantly regretting it.
The more serious questions involve getting to Venice in the
first place, getting back, and getting around Europe in general.
I took the train from London to Venice and back, and then
compounded my agony a few days later by taking the train from London
to the south of France. Now I know that such travel is a nightmare
