Article: Deer Isle, Stonington school budget up for vote

DEER ISLE - Island residents will set the school budget when they gather for the annual Deer Isle-Stonington Community School District budget meeting on Thursday.

The meeting to vote on the $6 million budget will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the elementary school.

The gross budget figure of $6,072,071 represents an increase of $119,134 from the current budget, according to Superintendent Robert Webster.

As in most budgets these days, the bulk of the increases stems from increasing energy costs - electricity, bus fuel and heating oil - and from contracted increases in salaries and benefits, Webster said. The budget also includes some staff restructuring.
