Article: Golfers to face new challenges in 88th Maine Open Auburn's Fox Ridge GC site of tourney

The 88th Charlie's Maine Open Golf Championship kicks off today in new surroundings - Fox Ridge Golf Club in Auburn - with no clear favorite among the 111 pro and amateur entries in the field.

Last year's champion, Kirk Hanefeld of Bolton, Mass., is competing on the Champions Tour now and will not be defending his title.

The 2004 champ, amateur Shawn Warren of Windham, is back as is last year's runner-up, John Connelly of Oregon, Ohio. Warren, 21, also won the Maine Amateur last month.

Among the other top pros are Brent Wanner of Orleans, Mass., and Rich Parker of Lebanon, N.H. Wanner finished tied for third at the Greater Bangor Open and Parker is a past GBO champion as well as 2000
