Article: Bangor police bomb squad handle suspicious box at BIA

BANGOR - The main terminal of Bangor International Airport was evacuated around 6 p.m. Tuesday after a suspicious white shoebox bound with duct tape was discovered by an employee emptying a trash can outside the building.

Bangor police responded to the scene and determined that the box was in fact suspicious enough to call in the department's bomb squad, but later determined that it contained only empty beer bottles wrapped in paper.

The bomb squad's 4-foot-tall remote-control robot, which handles potentially dangerous objects and explosives, was used initially to approach the box, followed by Bangor police Lt. Mark Hathaway, who was clad in a safety jump suit.
