Article: Limestone center reflects Loring's military heritage Ribbon- cutting held at facility

LIMESTONE - Decked out in the flight suit he wore when he was stationed at Loring Air Force Base, Pete Hurd stood outside the newly opened Loring Military Heritage Center on Saturday and talked about the past.

Hurd, now a Houlton resident, flew the last test flight in and out of Loring before it closed on Sept. 30, 1994. He also was stationed at the base in 1962, during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

"My heart is still at Loring because this is the first place as an ROTC cadet that I saw the Strategic Air Command in action," he said.
