Article: Local 80 reaches deal with buyer of Old Town mill Union accepts Red Shield contract

OLD TOWN - The local Georgia-Pacific Corp. papermakers union, PACE Local 80, voted Sunday to accept a five-year contract negotiated with Red Shield Environmental.

Red Shield, composed of a group of private investors who intend to develop and manage the former mill site, is slated to close Wednesday on the purchase of the facility.

The agreement was accepted in a secret ballot by "a very large margin," Union Vice President Dan Bird said Sunday.

Bird did not release the tallies, but said that several hundred members participated in the vote held at the Elks Club in Old Town. He also declined to discuss specific details of the agreement.
