BAR HARBOR - A former local "hotel mogul" who was instrumental in
founding the local Chamber of Commerce and College of the Atlantic
died over the weekend.
Bernard K. "Sonny" Cough was 79 years old.
Cough owned at least 10 lodging establishments over the course of
his life and was a longtime elected town official, serving three
terms on the Town Council and 20 years on the local planning board.
He sat on Acadia National Park's citizen advisory board, was one
of five men who spearheaded the creation of COA in 1969, and helped
start the local Chamber office, running it out of his house on
Kennebec Street in the 1960s before it had an office of its own.
