Article: Hospice of Hancock County to hold silent auction

ELLSWORTH - For most of the year, Hospice of Hancock County runs on little more than the unwavering support of about 130 volunteers.

But the nonprofit organization, which provides services related to end-of-life care and bereavement throughout Hancock County, still needs about $230,000 each year to operate, and none of that comes from federal or state grants.

As such, Hospice of Hancock County relies heavily on donations throughout the year, but also on two annual fundraising events in order to provide salaries to its four-person staff and keep its services free.

One of those events, the 12th annual silent auction, will be held 4:30-7 p.m. Saturday, March 3, at the Holiday Inn in Ellsworth.
