Article: Cruise ship expert shares ideas with Bar Harbor

BAR HARBOR - A cruise ship industry analyst Tuesday night succeeded in getting the Town Council to voice its support for continuing to attract the tourist-filled boats to the scenic island town.

This may come as a surprise to some people who have seen multitudes of cruise ships come and go from Frenchman Bay over the past decade. Since 1997, the number of cruise ship passengers traveling to Bar Harbor has increased from 27,000 to 128,000, and in 2004 the town closed part of a downtown street to vehicle traffic to celebrate the inaugural visit of the gigantic Queen Mary 2.
