Article: Red Shield shutting boiler to work on soot collection Debris won't be burned until issue resolved

OLD TOWN - Red Shield Environmental said Monday it would shut down its biomass boiler at the former Georgia-Pacific Corp. mill until Thursday to make repairs to its soot collection system.

Soot from the facility fell onto homes and yards in neighboring Bradley on two occasions in the past two weeks, according to Red Shield and state environmental officials.

Bradley is directly across the Penobscot River from the mill.

Red Shield planned to shut the boiler at 6 p.m. Monday, and it is expected to be down until Thursday night.
