Sunday morning, having spent most of the past two days with
little sleep and in the same sweater and slacks, Frank Iarossi looked
out over another packed audience of reporters and angry townspeople
and noted, without comment or surprise, that the Easter Bunny,
complete with fuzzy suit and egg basket, was sitting in the fourth
row.
Iarossi had been sleeping peacefully at his home in Houston
Friday morning when the telephone rang with the melancholy news that
Exxon Shipping Co., which he has served as president for seven years,
had just spilled more oil into the fragile ecosystem of Alaska's
Prince William Sound than had ever been spilled anywhere in the
United States.
