Article: Bar Harbor cruise ship tally likely to be record high

BAR HARBOR - The local cruise ship season is expected to end on a high note this week with the number of such vessels that make stops in Frenchman Bay hitting a record high, according to a local official.

Provided the Norwegian Spirit stops in port Wednesday as scheduled, there will have been 90 cruise ship visits to Frenchman Bay this year, Bar Harbor harbor master Charlie Phippen said Monday. The Norwegian Spirit, an 879-foot-long ship that can carry 1,966 passengers and 965 crew, is the last cruise ship scheduled to visit Bar Harbor in 2007.

"I thought it was fairly successful," Phippen said of the 2007 season.
