Here's the next big headache for Edward J. Rollins, the
top-dollar consultant hired to steer House Republicans out of their
electoral doldrums: Reeling from the loss of Vice President Quayle's
former seat in Indiana last week and facing two difficult special
elections this month, Rollins is confronted with the possibility that
many of the best and brightest House Republicans may be leaving.
The good news for the GOP is that these House members want to
leave to run for senator or governor. But at a time when the party
has begun to focus special attention on its lackluster performance in
congressional races, the potential departure of as many as 15 House
Republicans in the 1990 election ...
