Article: Certified lactation counselor at Pomerene Hospital works to encourage breastfeeding

MILLERSBURG -- A mother of four, and a registered nurse, Raquel Miller said she will always regret not breastfeeding her eldest child.

"I had worked in the hospital and seen moms struggle those first few days trying to get babies to nurse. I thought, 'You know, I am not going to put myself through that,' and I decided not to nurse him," said Miller, whose children are 11, 8, 6 and 19 months.

Now a certified lactation counselor with the Holmes County Health District, Miller is working to help other moms avoid making the same mistake she made with her firstborn. She's secured a $3,000 grant from the Canton Regional Area Health Education Center to help ...
