MILLERSBURG -- Male drivers of passenger trucks have the lowest
rate of seat belt usage among drivers in Holmes County, according to
a survey conducted by the Holmes County Highway Safety Task Force.
The survey found rates as low as 30 percent among drivers in
pickup trucks and SUVs. The study was conducted in October and
November at 19 randomly selected sites around the county, according
to program assistant Kat Williard. The majority of drivers, and
passengers, not belted in were males.
Williard said statistics collected across the nation indicate
drivers feel safer in trucks, and the low seat belt usage rates agree
with national statistics.
