It's that time of year again ... itchy eyes and runny nose. Yes,
allergy season is upon us. But did you know animals can develop
allergies as well? More commonly expressed as skin irritation,
itching, hair loss and staph infections, as compared to the sinus
congestion we humans suffer from.
Most animal allergies I see are a fall pollen allergy, most likely
ragweed and other similar weeds. Aug. 15th of each year is know as
the beginning of ragweed season in the Midwest, but we often see
ragweed cases as early as late July. Generally, dogs will develop
severe itching (pruritis) of the thighs, bilateral abdomen and chest,
