Article: Legendary World Champion Boxer Sugar Ray Robinson Dies at Age 67

Sugar Ray Robinson, 67, a world champion fighter whose lightning fists and unparalleled footwork made him a boxing legend, died yesterday at a hospital in Los Angeles.

Mr. Robinson, who dominated the ring with his speed and style during the 1940s and 1950s, died about 15 minutes after being admitted to the emergency room at Brotman Medical Center. The Associated Press reported that he had suffered from Alzheimer's disease, diabetes and hypertension.

A former world welterweight and middleweight champion, Mr. Robinson was generally considered to have been the best fighter pound-for-pound in boxing history. In 1977, the boxing writers of America voted him the best fighter of all time.
