SARASOTA, Fla. - IF SOME- body dangled a rope around Cincinnati
Reds manager Bob Boone's head and said, "Tell me who your right
fielder is or I'll kick out the chair," there would be a funeral
procession down Ringling Boulevard this morning.
Right field is up for grabs, the only position not taken on the
field. The two top candidates, Juan Encarnacion and Ruben Mateo, are
treating it as if land mines are in right field, so let the other guy
step on them.
Through nine exhibition games, only two of which the Reds have
won, Encarnacion is hitting .125 (2 for 16) and Mateo is hitting .105
(2 for 19). Neither has an RBI and neither has a home run.
