Antal Dorati maintained a special relationship with the
University of Maryland Chorus during his tenure as conductor of the
National Symphony. He celebrated his inaugural concert with a
performance of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony in collaboration with the
chorus, and they performed together frequently to great acclaim and
to their mutual pleasure until Dorati's death last year.
Sunday night at the university's Memorial Chapel, Paul Traver
and the University of Maryland Chorus brought together many of
Dorati's friends, colleagues and admirers for a concert to celebrate
his memory with a group of Dorati's own compositions, dedicated to
the chorus, and with the Brahms Requiem.
