The Soviet Union decided to suspend human occupation of the space
station Mir in part because of an electrical power problem on the
facility, and it plans to launch a team to repair it in two or three
months, according to a leading aerospace publication.
"An electrical short or degradation of the Mir solar arrays has
begun to limit severely the power available on the station," Aviation
Week and Space Technology magazine reports in its Monday issue.
The Soviets announced this week, without explanation, that they
will leave the station unmanned for the first time in two years.
