CINCINNATI - Stop the season, the Cincinnati Reds want off right now.

At 1-0, it doesn't get much better than this.

For the entire month of March during the exhibition season, the Reds looked as if they were preparing to lay claim to the record 120 losses piled up by the 1962 New York Mets. They lost 22 of their 32 games, including 14 of their last 17 while acting as if playing in 80- degree temperatures was too hot to put out much effort.

Then the bell clanged for Opening Day Monday against the Chicago Cubs, and the transformation was magical.

Sure, it was only one game and there are 161 left, but if the team plays with the verve and style it displayed ...
