Now that we've had a bit of rain in the Dayton area and the
temperature has dropped, you should be able to tell if your lawn is
going to bounce back from the hot, dry summer on its own.
This is a good time of year to plant either grass or trees.
Choosing and planting trees
The first factor in choosing a tree is analyzing the spot where
you intend to plant it.
If you want a large tree, you need space for both the crown of the
tree and the roots. Remember that the roots will spread about as far
underground as the branches, so don't plant a tree in a position
where it is likely to undermine sidewalks or other structures.
The slope and quality of the soil also are important.
