Loyal readers offer touching farewells to beloved advice columnist
She was always right.
What higher praise could there have been for advice columnist Ann
Landers, who died last month at the age of 83.
That sentiment, expressed by Linda Phillips-Mattila of Medway, was
typical of the responses we received when we asked readers to share
their memories of Ann Landers, whose real name was Esther Lederer.
She dispensed her common-sense advice for more than four decades
after her first column appeared in 1955 .
Though Ann Landers can never be replaced, beginning Sunday we will
publish Dear Abby, an advice column started by her twin sister,
