Attorneys prosecuting the cocaine distribution conspiracy charges
against 18 persons arrested in a massive drug sweep asked a federal
magistrate yesterday to remove the attorney for the alleged gang
leader from the case because of conflict of interest.
The attorney, Arthur M. Reynolds Jr., represents Rayful Edmond
III, who authorities say is one of the largest cocaine dealers in the
District and who prosecutors allege provided Reynolds' wife with the
use of a Mercedes-Benz. The car was seized in a sweep that began
last weekend.
U.S. Magistrate Deborah A. Robinson held a 30-minute closed
hearing yesterday on the request by Assistant U.S. Attorney Betty Ann
