An almost perfect basketball game was played in Boston Garden
this week. The winners were smart, tough and together. Each man's
potential became his performance. Ten players shared the time. And
each contributed differently. It was classic Celtics basketball.
Except the Washington Bullets played it.
Charles Jones, Ledell Eackles and Steve Colter played like Bill
Russell, John Havlicek and Bob Cousy. Not as well, mind you. Just
in the manner of. That's to say, with unselfishness, poise and an
icy commitment so bone deep that, for a while, they seemed aware only
of the game and not their foe.
Sometime this summer, the NBA will eventually crown a champion.
