ANAHEIM, Calif. - Willie Mays is wearing his 1954 World Series
ring he won with the New York Giants as a reminder to his godson what
lies ahead.
Mays wasn't at Edison Field Saturday for Game 1 of the World
Series when his godson, Barry Bonds, hit a home run in his first
World Series at-bat. Mays watched on television in Las Vegas, where
he works at Caesar's Palace.
"He looked surprised when he hit it," Mays said. "And he is
nervous. Did you notice his second at-bat? He struck out on a ball
over his head and that's not him. He doesn't swing at those pitches."
Mays was at Edison for Game 2, and two security guards whisked him
