The message from school says the second-grader won't be allowed back
in school until she is rid of head lice. The girl's mother is
horrified to discover her daughter has lice. She also wonders how
long it will be before her child can return to school.
There are a lot of misconceptions about head lice, a common and
usually harmless affliction that strikes many children ages 5 to 11.
Health-care specialists urge adults to treat the problem
realistically.
`Having head lice is not a reflection of poor parental care,' said
Marian Rodgers, an infection-control nurse at Children's Medical
