FAIRBORN - You can dab zinc oxide on your nose, and it will keep
you from getting sunburn. Or smear some on your baby's behind, and it
will keep him from getting diaper rash.
But someday it might be zinc oxide that makes your DVD player
better or that lights your home at a fraction of the cost of today's
light bulbs.
More than 160 scientists from 18 countries gathered last week at
Wright State University for the second International Workshop on Zinc
Oxide. They compared notes on what David Look, Ph.D., a senior
research physicist, said is one of the hottest topics in materials
research.
