Anglers who have the pleasure of introducing others to the sport
of fishing usually observe a common failing with the beginners.
Take Joe, for example, assuming Joe is the beginner. He accepts
your invitation to go fishing and meets you with a fishing rod and
reel that has been collecting dust for years.
"My uncle caught a lot of fish with this reel and pole," Joe says.
At the lake Joe winds up to make a 50-yard cast. He flings his
bait toward the open water. The lure falls about two feet from the
boat.
"Uncle Roy told me this outfit worked fine the last time he used
it," Joe says.
The rod probably is as good as ever, the reel might operate
smoothly with a little oil, but the fishing line ...
