MASSIE TWP., Warren County - Folks protested and filed lawsuits, but there seemed no stopping it - water was coming through the Caesar Creek valley and people and homes had to get out of the way.

By May 1973, bulldozers, axes and progress obliterated New Burlington. Three hundred villagers, a grocery store, three churches, a garage, a Masonic hall and a cemetery on top of a hill would be in the path of the U.S. Corps of Engineers' Caesar Creek Lake Project started in 1971.

But not all of the homes set for demolition would be lost to flooding and clearing.

When siding, drywall and plaster were pulled from the Levi Lukens House in 1972, antique logs were discovered.
