DAYTON - Ticket sales are considerably higher for full-length story ballets than mixed programs of choreography without narrative.

But most new work fits in the second category.

The repertoire of full-length ballets never seems to change.

Most of those on the list - Swan Lake, Giselle, Sleeping Beauty, La Bayadere, Coppelia, La Sylphide, Raymonda, etc. - date back more than 100 years to another continent.

Dermot Burke views that as not just as an invitation, but an imperative to produce new full-length story ballets that are accessible to ticket buyers in the 21st century United States.
