In a bid to keep alive the delicate Cambodian peace process,
Prince Norodom Sihanouk said today that under certain conditions, he
would be willing to part company with his Khmer Rouge allies and make
a separate peace with the Vietnamese-installed government in Phnom
Penh.
But Sihanouk, who is backed by most countries in the region and
the United States to lead the next government, made several demands
that he said must be met before he would be willing to return to
Phnom Penh and join forces with Prime Minister Hun Sen, leader of
Cambodia's pro-Hanoi government.
Vietnam must withdraw its remaining troops from Cambodia, he
said, and Hun Sen must agree to scrap communism, form a multiparty ...
