Air Park Night puts heritage on display

MORAINE - There was a lot of aviation history evident inside the Moraine Civic Center recently as local heroes of flight gathered to share memories and memorabilia.

Surrounded by artifacts of Moraine's aviation heritage, former city mayor Harold Johnson recounted the highlights:

* The Wright brothers tested their float planes on the Great Miami River at Moraine.

* The first Dayton Municipal Airport was in Moraine.

* The Dayton-Wright Airplane factory built planes there, including aircraft for European battlefronts in World War I.

* The world's first seaplane was built in Moraine.
