DAYTON - If someone was wondering how much passion and energy
could fit into a three-minute poem, they should have been at the
Canal Street Tavern last Monday night.
It was there that Dayton's National Poetry Slam team unveiled some
of the pieces it's been working on for the National Poetry Slam
Competition in Chicago Aug. 6-9.
The four-poet team, and one alternate, have been practicing on
their pieces the last few months to go up against the other 63 teams.
Usually, there are only 56 teams, but as slams have become more
popular, the national tournament expanded to allow for more.
In a poetry slam, poets recite or perform an original piece in
